Abhishek, Kangana to play husband and wife in RGV’s ‘Department’

After delivering a two part film 'Rakta Charitra’ last year, Ram Gopal Varma, who is now attempting to bring a dark action drama for his next tilted ‘Department’, has signed in actors Kangana Ranaut and Abhishek Bachchan as the main leads in the film.

Department’ will be the second film for Kangana and Abhishek as the duo has earlier shared screen space in their upcoming film ‘Game’. Interestingly in this forthcoming RGV film, Abhishek and Kangana will be seen playing husband and wife.

Other than these two actors, the filmmaker is also bringing in Amitabh and Sanjay Dutt with interesting roles in ‘Department’.

Speaking about the story of this dark thriller, RGV stated, “The story is about three cops and the extra-constitutional activities they engage in to maintain a civil society. Kangana is the only person in the world that Abhishek's character can share his agony with. She plays a very intense role in this dark, gritty and real drama.”

Varma impressed with Kangana
RGV, who has signed Kangana on Monday, stated that he roped in the actress for ‘Department’ after seeing her breathtaking performance in films like ‘Gangster’ and ‘Woh Lamhe’.

"I wondered why we haven't worked together as yet! Kangna very much fits into my vision as a filmmaker. She is intense and emotional on screen.

I've wanted to work with her, from the time she appeared in Gangster and Woh Lamhe. But I didn't want to cast her in anything insignificant. The role had to justify her presence,” stated Varma.

Kangana spotted with Salman
It’s heard that recently Salman, who was in Mehboob studio busy shooting promos for ‘Ready’ with Asin, had wrapped up his shoot immediately after he came to know that Kangana was shooting in the same studio.

Speaking about Salman and Kangana enjoying each other’s company, a source stated, “He's extremely fond of her. The fact that he was extremely eager to spend time with her on the sets, speaks volumes. She, too, was excited about having him around.”

Homegrown FMCG major Emami Ltd, which boasts of over 25 celebrity endorsers, is expanding the list with the addition of Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut as brand ambassador for its skin care products.

The Kolkata-based firm, which had once signed up ex-India captain Sourav Ganguly, is now looking beyond cricketers and eyeing other sports personalities for its different products.

“Celebrity endorsement has worked for us and we will continue with it. As the company grows and our portfolio increases, we will rope in more celebrities,” the company Director, Mr Aditya Agarwal, told PTI.

Kangana Ranaut got inked yet again on the back of her neck last Friday by tattoo artist Sameer Patange at his Kraayonz Tattoo Studio.

The actress reveals more about the new inking, "I call this the warrior angel. I got my earlier tat done about a month ago. It was small and basic consisting of just a cross and wings. This one is bigger and more elaborate. Sameer is excellent at detailing and concealing. He has added angels, wings, a crown and a sword around my earlier tat in such a way that he didn't have to remove it. I have also designed rose buds on top of the rose handle to make it look more feminine."

She says she always wanted to have a tattoo based around the concept of a sword and angels with wings. "I have always been a fighter no matter what my circumstances have been and I also feel that angels have protected me. Hence the angels, wings, crown and sword design which I conceived on my own. The new inking session lasted almost two-and-a-half hours and was very painful. But the pain was worth it as now my dream tattoo is ready. I don't plan to have any more done now maybe when I get married and have children, I might have their names inked!"

Kangana says she was in two minds on enlarging her original tat. "When I had my first done I wasn't sure how it would look especially if I could carry it off during shootings and given the characters I was playing. I kept it small as I wanted to check it out. But then I realised I could always conceal it with make-up or wear outfits that covered my tattoo when I was shooting. I decided to go for a larger, more elaborate tattoo my dream one!"

Ranaut will be next seen on screen in No Problem, an Anees Bazmee film, along with Anil Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt, Sunil Shetty and Akshaye Khanna. Her character in the film is a bimbette who is completely obsessed with her looks and the latest fashion trends.

While people assumed Kangna Ranaut to be a struggling wannabe actress from Himachal Pradesh when she entered B-Town, the truth is far different.

The actress comes from one of the richest and politically most influential families in the state. Hers is not a rags to riches story.

Which explains the lakhs of rupees she spends on clothes, shoes and bags every month, more than even the top actresses of B-Town and star wives.

Have money, won't talk
A source close to Kangna confirms her family affluence, "She doesn't like talking about her family wealth as she's struggled on her own to be in her position. Besides that, she believes it's in bad taste to talk about one's wealth." Her family is from the blue-blooded Rajputs from Bhambla village in Himachal Pradesh.

Our village
Kangna has a huge 25-room ancestral house or haveli in Bhambla (currently called Surajpur) belonging to her great-grandfather. "While it was originally called Bhambla, when Kangna's great-grandfather became the local MLA, the village was named Surajpur after him. " Kangna grew up in a joint family, with her brother, sister, parents, great-grandparents, grand- parents and chacha and chachi. The family owns several acres of land in Surajpur.

Luxurious living
Adds an insider, "Kangna's father Amardeep Ranaut is in the construction business and he supplies construction material for building roads etc for the Public Works Department (PWD) in Himachal Pradesh. She has been brought up in luxury and always had five cars parked in front of her home." But things suddenly took a turn for the worse when she decided to come to Mumbai to become an actress. Her grandfather was dead against any female from his family joining films as he felt it was demeaning.

On your own, please!
Kangna's father too supported his father, and when she insisted on acting, both of them stopped talking to her. Her father told her that he would give her no financial support and she would have to make it on her own.

Hard times
Kangna left home at 16 and initially stayed with a friend in Delhi before coming to Mumbai in 2005. She went through a lot of hardship but never asked her family for help. She lived in Aasha Chandra's hostel and shared a room with three other girls. It was a miserable time for her as she was cut off from her family and struggling in a strange city. It was only after Life In A... Metro that her family relented and welcomed her once again into their fold.

Preity connection
There was a family reunion when her parents, sister Rangoli and brother Akshat came to Mumbai. Today, her family is very proud of her.

Kangna's friend insists, however, that the actress is not related to Preity Zinta. "Preity's maternal aunt is a resident of Surajpur and PZ often comes to meet her. Once during a family function of Preity's in the village Kangna and her siblings met Preity. Now they keep in touch. That's all.

Kang's Grandpa
Kangna's great-grandfather (and idol) Sarju Singh Ranaut left his job as a head clerk for the British government to become a freedom fighter with Mahatma Gandhi.

Kangs still has the letters Gandhiji wrote to her great-grandfather. He was also the only man from his village who knew English at that time and got electricity to his village.

Release of Fashion is just a fortnight away and things are really heating up on the film's promotion front. And one aspect about the film which has managed to catch attention is Kangana Ranaut's portrayal in the film. In one of the scenes in the film, she is shown to be sitting completely lost on a bust pavement even as dozens of people walk by without paying any attention towards her.

Now this solitary shot pretty much confirms the speculations that were making rounds in the industry circles around a year back that Kangana's character was based on real life model Geetanjali Nagpal. Reason? Geetanjali too was found in a similar state in New Delhi before she was treated in a hospital to have her condition turn for better.

To confirm if this was indeed true, Madhur Bhandarkar only smiled and refused to divulge much about Kangana's character in the film. He merely said, ''Kangana plays a model in the film and goes through a lot in her life. She takes on drugs as well. Beyond that I don't want to comment anything around her role being modeled in Geetanjali. Check out the film and you would know reality by yourself.''

Kangana and Adhyayan (son of Shekhar Suman ) have been linked together ever since they began shooting the Bhatts’ film Raaz 2 in South Africa. Not only did the duo bond well during the film’s shooting, they spent a lot of time together in the gym and would often go out in the evenings.

I like it to be different...It's my role I'm talking about. It's funny how when one film is a hit everyone wants to do what that film showcased. When Chameli was appreciated, everyone wanted to be Chameli. When Devdas was a hit, everyone wanted to do Paro kind of roles. Doing something that has already been done before is not my style. I don't enjoy it at all.

"It makes me a 'me too'. So I try to do something different. I tried my hands at Gangster, Metro, Woh Lamhe... and I'm really happy with the roles offered to me. I've been lucky I guess. The film industry has a charm of its own. The best thing about films is that it provides the audience with 'moments'.

"I love watching comedies and feel good films. Andaaz Apna Apna was superb. I can watch it at any time of the day. I also like old films. They're so simple and yet fun. I've admired many actresses of the yesteryears. Madhubala, Meena Kumari are world class.

"I hope our generation of actresses also brings with it something that people admire and appreciate. And I hope that that 'it' is a certain sense of individuality in the art of cinema...and more!"

Emraan Hashmi has been playing scary pranks on actress Kangana Ranaut on the sets of Raaz 2 .

Since the movie is a suspense thriller, director Mohit Suri and producer Mukesh Bhatt have chosen a very spooky ancient villa in Shimla to shoot the film. The villa is full of creaky doors, windy corridors and paintings of royals staring from walls.

Given such a spooky ambience, Emraan and Mohit decided to play a prank on Kangana.

Emraan took out his Ouija board from his baggage and arranged a séance with Kangana and Mohit.

An Ouija board is believed to be used to summon dead spirits and ask them to answer questions by those participating in the séance.
A curious Kangana sat in front of the Ouija board with Emraan and she apparently noticed some movement in the counter on the board. Thinking that a spirit had actually arrived, Kangana screamed and fled from the meeting. She did not know it was just a trick by Emraan.

From that meeting onward, Kangana – who, by the way, is a very spiritual person – began keeping a safe distance from Emraan. But the actor was not to be deterred. After that he tried to scare Kangana in a different way – like knocking on her door in the middle of the night and running way.

You can never be too thin. Ask Kangana Ranaut. Recently, the waif thin actress was asked to shed three kgs for Mahesh Bhatt's Raaz 2, which is directed by Mohit Suri.

Says a source from the production unit, "Vishesh Films categorically told Kangana that she will have to shed a few kilos to suit her character in Raaz 2. Raaz 2 is not a sequel of Raaz, where a voluptuous actress like Bipasha Basu played the lead role."

"Kangana is on a weight losing spree as she is extremely focused on her role and is leaving no stone unturned to carry it out as convincingly as she can," adds the source.

Raaz 2's producer Mahesh Bhatt says, "Kangana plays a professional model who lives with her boyfriend. But then everything changes when bizarre incidents start happening in her life due to some paranormal forces. Recently, I saw a much slimmer Kangana shooting in a black dress and she looked ravishing."

A close friend of director Mohit Suri and actress Kangana, says, "Kangana is a North Indian and is extremely fond of healthy food. She has a good appetite and eats four hearty meals every day. She was quite upset when she was asked to shed at least three kilos, which is quite surprising as she is already so thin! Although Kangana was a through professional and immediately started losing the required weight she was a little upset because she had to cut down on her meal portions to a great extent to look as thin as possible when the walks the ramp in Raaz 2."

There is quite an age difference between the two actors. But that didn’t deter producer Bhushan Kumar of T-Series to sign Kangana and Sanjay for a candy-floss romantic film to be directed by Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru.

The movie will have one more heroine who is yet to be finalized. The shooting will take place in India and the US.

Reports have it that Kangana’s dates have been figured out for the film’s shooting schedule but Dutt’s dates have yet to be sorted out.

Marriage is at least six years away for talented actress Kangana Ranaut but that hasn't stopped her from listing out the qualities she wants in Mr.Right!

"I'm going to get married at the age of 26. So I've a good six years to find Mr. Right," Kangana told IANS.

"He should be gentle, well-mannered and real... not a mannequin. He has to be a white-collar professional like a doctor or a lecturer with a steady income. He should be intelligent. I don't like men who flaunt their sexuality and let their muscles hang out. To me machismo is about what you hide, not show."

And the list doesn't stop there. She's also particular about the clothes her guy should wear.

"I prefer a guy in a formal suit, not in a sleeveless t-shirt. And I hate men who bare their chest at the drop of a hat. Applications are most welcome...," she laughs.

The young actress is happy that her character in her latest film "Metro" finds happiness in the end, unlike her previous films.

"My character in 'Metro' finds happiness...finally. So far all my love stories on screen have ended in tragedy. And in all my films, including 'Metro', I've two men in my life. I'm first in love with one man, and then another man comes along. I hope I find at least one man to love me in real life!"

But Kangana is angry about reports that they are steamy love scenes between her and Kay Kay in "Metro".

"I don't know who's spreading these rumours. There's no torrid love scene. I wish there was, but there isn't. I had love scenes in 'Gangster' and 'Woh Lamhe' and I admitted to them. So why should I hide a love scene if I had one in 'Metro'? I'll happily make love to the camera if the script demands it. But I don't want people to go to the film with the wrong impression."

She truly regrets not having any scenes with Shilpa Shetty and Irrfan Khan.

"I truly admire Irrfan as an actor. But hey, Kay Kay is no less! He taught me to bring out the nuances of my emotions. He'd explain things so patiently to me," says Kangana.

Talking about co-star Konkona Sen Sharma, Kangana adds: "We're best friends in the film and I genuinely felt warm vibes with her. Thank god for that. Otherwise my discomfort would show on screen.

"I can't do an emotional scene if I'm in a good mood. But Konkona just goes in front of the camera to give a perfect shot. I don't know what Konkona really thought of me. But I'd like to believe she likes me a lot."

Though her last film "Shakalaka Boom Boom" didn't work, Kangana is unfazed.

"Luckily most of my films have worked for me. And it doesn't matter how 'Metro' does at the box office. For me it already works as a story. All the performances support the screenplay and characters."

And she maintains that "Metro" will always remain special.

"What makes 'Metro' really special is that I had so many talented co-stars to support me. I was also very relaxed doing the film. In 'Gangster' and 'Woh Lamhe' I was playing such traumatized characters that I was constantly breathless and hysterical," Kangana reveals.

Kangana can't stop singing in praise of "Metro" director Anurag Basu.

He has taught me everything about acting. He can get any emotion out of me. I would love to do more films with him. He was planning another film with me but we got stuck at the story's climax," she said.

The film Kangana recently signed is called "Roshan".

"I don't like the scripts that I hear everyday. The minute I heard Samir Karnik's 'Roshan', I wanted to do it."

Kangana ranaut files complaint against Aditya Panscholi

Actors Kangana Ranaut and Aditya Panscholi are at loggerheads yet again. The two filed non-cognisable complaints (NC) against each other at Versova police station last Saturday accusing each other of issuing threats and using abusive language, police sources said.

First, Ranaut stormed into the police station around 6 pm and complained that Panscholi had been harassing her. "She said she had been friends with Panscholi and his family since long. But Panscholi had started threatening her on phone, using abusive language and behaving badly with her," said inspector M Sankhe. Ranaut also said Panscholi had been dropping in on the sets during shoots and creating a scene.

Police sources said Ranaut had sought the guidance of senior police officials before coming to the police station to file a complaint.

Around 7 pm, Panscholi too landed at the police station claiming Ranaut was making false allegations against him. "Panscholi showed us messages which he claimed were sent to him by Ranaut. The messages said she would be filing a false complaint against him," added Sankhe.

Zonal DCP Vinaykumar Choube said, "Both actors have lodged non-cognisable complaints against each other and we are looking into the matter." Normally, a further probe is not carried out in non-cognisable cases.

'Until now they manufactured footwear only for men. And Salman was their brand ambassador. The company is launching its female line-up with me. And that's quite an honour, considering it's my first endorsement,' Kangana told IANS.

What made them choose her?

'It was my casual looks, I guess. The brand isn't associated with formal shoes - only sporty footwear, sneakers etc. They want me to endorse their shoes in my jeans and with my curly hair. Very youth-oriented. And the fact that they expect my career to grow with their new female line up of shoes makes the endorsement a bigger responsibility for me.'

For a while now there have been reports doing the rounds of how the clandestine relationship between Kangana Ranaut and her mentor Aditya Panscholi fell apart. Aditya apparently physically abused Kangana after the two had a tiff.

"It hurts terribly to be portrayed as a villain, especially when you are new here and are concentrating on your career. My career is taking off now and I am busy doing so many films," said Kangana from Chennai, where she's gone to do a Tamil film.

What's hurting the actor more is that she's been portrayed as a calculative manipulator who's used Aditya to further her career. "It's very sad, but he is my past now.

It's my personal decision and I hope he doesn't hold any grudges against me. We are not even friends now. And it's nobody's fault. Mistakes do happen and one moves on," Kangana said.

If one is wondering what mistakes she is referring to, then it's the reports that the much married Aditya and she were a couple. "Don't ask me more about this. I can't speak. I spoke to Aditya after an article appeared in a tabloid, and he says he was instigated to talk against me.

I trust him. He's not the villain. I am sure that he will never run me down. Similarly, I will never bad mouth him. He has always been an extremely honest and a responsible man. Nobody knows him better than me," she said with a tinge of sadness.

However, Kangana acknowledges that the Panscholis were there for her whenever she needed them. "They have done so much for me and suddenly not to be a part of them seems so weird. People may be assuming that Kangana has grown bigger and has turned ungrateful to the people who looked after her.

That's not true. I have my own reasons to distance myself from Aditya. It's good for him and me, too. But whenever the Panscholi family needs me, I will always be there for them," she said.

Has she spoken to Aditya's wife Zarina or daughter Sana? "Honestly, I didn't have time, as I was zooming in and out of Mumbai and have been busy with back-to-back meetings. But, yes, I have high regards for Zarinaji," she said summing it up.

Kangana has been cast in this regional film opposite South’s superstar Jayam Ravi. Apparently, she is happy to be doing regional “substantial” cinema rather than archetype Bollywood drama. Director Jeeva, according to her, is one of the highest paid directors in the country. Kangana plays a simple village girl, much like Madhoo’s character in Mani Ratnam’s Roja. Kangana Ranaut is determined to fight threats from the man from Himachal Pradesh who allegedly threw acid on her sister last year and is now out on bail. "I'm a fearless person," says kangana.

Sounding agitated but restrained, Kangana told IANS: "The calls started a while back. He calls up and says, 'let me marry your sister because no one else will marry her now'. He promises to keep her happy. And when I refuse his generous offer, he says he'll do the same thing to me that he did to my sister."

Kangana seems outwardly unperturbed.

"I'm shooting for a promotional music video of Suneel Darshan's 'Shaka Laka Boom Boom'. I can't allow this man to disrupt my sister or my life. My sister Rangoli isn't allowed to take any calls. I can handle this man. But the best part is, calls have started coming on my cook's cell number! How does this man have my numbers? Who gave them to him?"

Even more baffling is how the electronic medium got wind of Kangana's scary predicament.

"I lodged a complaint with my local (Versova) police station. And they offered to provide security. I was also asked to tape the man's conversation, which I duly did and handed over to the authorities. The next thing I know the news that my sister and I are being threatened is all over the TV channels!"

Kangana is hounded by the electronic medium.

"But I'm not speaking to anyone. I just want it to be known through this interview that I'm going to fight this man who's creating havoc in our lives to the end this time."

Kangana Ranaut, lodged a complaint with the Versova police station on Monday after receiving threat calls and SMSes. The calls were being made by the same person on whose alleged instructions acid was thrown on Kangana’s sister, Rangoli, last year.

The actor’s publicist Parull Gossain said, “Kangana had lodged a complaint with the Versova police after she started receiving threat calls and SMSes from Avinash Sharma, the same person who masterminded the acid attack on Kangana’s sister in Dehradun, last October.”

According to police sources, Kangana had been receiving threats from Sharma for the past 12 days. Police sources said that Sharma told Kangana to either help him marry her sister or bear the same consequences faced by her sister. Morever, Sharma even tried to meet Kangana in Mumbai.

Sharma had allegedly instigated his friend, Prem Singh to throw acid on Rangoli at her rented house on October 5.

“We have registered a complaint and are investigating the matter,” deputy commissioner of police (DCP Zone IX), VK Choubey told DNA. Sharma was arrested with his associate Prem Singh in Dehradun last October. Rangoli was engaged to another person and had been recuperating in a hospital after the incident.

`Gangster` not a small film says Kangana

Kangana Ranaut is miffed at 'Gangster - A Love Story', which catapulted her to fame, being referred to as a 'small film'.

'After the awards at a celebration party, an actor who seemed a little drunk walked up to me and smiled condescendingly to congratulate me for winning the award for a small film. I was immediately upset,' Kangana said, referring to the 13th Star Screen Awards function.

'Small? How is 'Gangster' a small film? Are they talking about budgeting?

It's a Rs.80-90 million film. Is that chickenfeed?

'We shot the film in Seoul where no Indian film has been shot before. The plot takes the characters to two different countries. The largeness of the canvas is unquestionable. I'd rather be proud of such a small film than be ashamed of some big film where I'd be tucked away in an invisible corner. And I said so to the actor,' Kangana said.

She walked away with the best debutante actress award at the function held in Mumbai.

Apparently, Kangana, who already has a reputation for not mincing words, made her displeasure very clear to the actor who made the remark. Several onlookers heard raised voices.

But she said: 'There were no raised voices. I just made my point very clear. 'Gangster' isn't a small film. I'm now doing some so-called big films. And I'm equally proud of both.'

The actress has, for now, stopped signing new films.

'I'm listening to new scripts every day. But nothing that excites me enough to grab another offer. I'd rather wait for Anurag Basu's 'Metro' and Suneel Darshan's 'Shakalaka Boom Boom' to come out in February and April before I say yes to any of the new offers.

'It's so difficult to follow up 'Gangster' and 'Woh Lamhe' with something equally exciting. I envy Kareena Kapoor for getting 'Omkara'. I'd love to work with directors like Vishal Bharadwaj and Madhur Bhandarkar. In fact, I'll be listening to Madhurji's script soon.'

Good times ahead in 2007?

'Very good times,' said Kangana. '2006 gave me some heartburns specially about my sister's injury and some unsavoury rumours about my fall-out with the Bhatts (Mahesh and Mukesh Bhatt). I think things will be far more peaceful this year.'

“I was told I was getting the award for Sabsey Favourite Nayi heroine. I got delayed in the traffic. When I reached the venue I could hear Shah Rukh’s name being announced. Finally when they had zeroed down on Sinhaji, they called and asked if would reconsider doing the film, but I refused.”

Kangana is quite frank even when it comes to admitting to posing for the pictures which leaves very little to the imagination, but nonetheless the actress claims that she has no regrets today. Neither is there any bad blood from Nihalani’s side as he claims that Kangana simply changed her mind about making her debut in the film. He also claims that after Ranaut informed him that she was not interested in doing the film, she was quite professional and returned the signing amount. It was touch-and-go for actress Kangana at her first awards function in Kuala Lumpur. Kangana went through unexpected trauma last week. A routine delay at the GIFA awards made the actress miss the flight for Dubai where she was supposed to attend the Dubai Film Festival the next day.

"I don't know if it was a routine delay. I've no experience with awards ceremonies. GIFA was my first ever awards. And I was damn excited to get the trophy from Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra.

"However, the function, which was supposed to start at 7 p.m. finally, started at 11 p.m. I rushed out soon after I got my award. But it was too late. I had missed my flight to Dubai for the festival there."

Fortunately, she was able to find a place in a later flight.

"And I reached Dubai just in time for the red carpet at the film festival."

Kangana shudders at the thought of the losses she'd have suffered if she had failed to reach Dubai.

"It was an endorsed event and heavy compensations were involved. But no complaints! I loved the idea of getting my first award. This was actually my second award in two days. But I couldn't be in Singapore for my best-actress award at the Asian Awards For 1st Films."

Is it true the producers Mahesh and Mukesh Bhatt didn't arrange for her travel to Singapore in time?

"I wouldn't like to comment on that. The Bhatts have been more than fair to me. In fact, I made it a point to thank them at GIFA."

"I was always interested in theatre and modelling. I had even enrolled at the Elite school of modelling and I gradually figured out where my interest lied."

Though Vishesh Films is repeating her in "Woh Lamhe", which is based on the brief romance of director Mahesh Bhatt and Parveen Babi, Kangana is keen to work with Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Yash Chopra, reported Bollywood Trade.

Excerpts:

Q: you are a science student, what prompted you act in films?

A: Honestly speaking medicine and engineering didn't interest me. I was always interested in theatre and modelling. I had even enrolled myself at the Elite school of Modelling and gradually I figured out where my interest lied.

Q: You are 19 and already a film old. How does it feel?

A: Initially I was scared when I quit my studies. But today when I look back I don't repent my decision. This is such a wonderful feeling... I mean the very fact that I am self-dependent and earn my own bread and butter makes me feel on seventh heaven. I am happy the way my career is going.

Q: People must have come up with lots of unsolicited advices...

A: Advices come free of cost but I ultimately do what I feel like and shall continue to do things that please me.

Q: It is a fad to change your name in Bollywood. Would you also be a part of this name game?

A: Well, I have never really thought about it. Having said that I'd like to declare that I don't wish to change anything about myself.

I am happy the way I am and don't see a reason to change anything concerning me but as far as films are concerned I am open to changes.

Anurag Basu feels I look western in some ways so I had to don two different looks in "Gangster". If a character demands changes then it is totally acceptable to me.

Q: Considering the fact that you come from a non-film family, how difficult was it for you to act?

A: See, I never claimed that I knew acting. I have always maintained that I don't know to act. But I guess I have learnt a lot from my first film and I will cherish each and every moment of the film.

Anurag and the entire Bhatt camp have been very sweet to me and they seem to like everything about me. They all have been very supportive and patient with me. Not only that, they also had complete faith and I don't think I can ever repay them.

Q: Mukesh Bhatt referred to you as the next Madhuri Dixit of Bollywood. So how do feel about that?

A: It definitely feels wonderful.

Q: Are you injury prone?

A: Well, I have hurt myself many times but that doesn't matter. I believe all these things are a part and parcel of an actor's life. We have to be like soldiers, very mighty and strong and take everything in our stride.

There are times when one has to shoot in skimpiest clothes in extreme conditions but I am okay with all that.

Q: Tell me something about your forthcoming films?

A: I am doing Mahesh Bhatt's "Woh Lamhe" opposite Shiney Ahuja where I play Parveen Babi. I can't disclose anything else at this point.

Q: How do you react to rumours?

A: Oh I don't really care. I don't pay attention to such things and prefer not to react so they never upset me. I choose to ignore them and don't let it affect my work.

Q: Lastly, tell me something about yourself that people don't know?

A: I am a classical Kathak dancer and I'd love to work with Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Yash Chopra.

Kangana Ranaut comes from the hill town of Mandi in Himachal Pradesh. She completed most of her schooling from Shimla. She has been studying science (medicine)and engineering, however these subjects failed to interest her. In a passion for acting, Kangana traveled to Delhi, where she did several theatre shows.

After this, she decided to take another step ahead. She came to Mumbai, to try her luck in movies. She was unsuccessful for quite a while, until she received the offer for "Gangster".
